Reginald Purvis, Director of Bands

        Reginald Purvis is currently in his twenty-second year in Music Education, and in his nineteenth year as Director of Bands at George Washington High School in Danville, Virginia. A native of Lynchburg, Virginia, Mr. Purvis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Under his direction, the music programs at George Washington High School have consistently won numerous superior ratings in all marching and concert captions at contests throughout Virginia and the Eastern United States. He is a member of the National Music Educators Association, the National Band Association, the Virginia Music Educators Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Professional Music Fraternity, and the National Education Association. He has also served as an adjudicator for contests and music festivals in Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. Purvis resides in Danville with his wife Renee and their son Matthew.

 

 

 

H. Grant Poole, Assistant Director of Bands

        Mr. H. Grant Poole is in his second year as Assistant Director of Bands at George Washington High School.  He is also the Music Specialist at Grove Park Preschool where he teaches general music classes and music and movement classes.  Mr. Poole is a native of Western Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Grove City College with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education.  He is currently working on a Masters of Music in Music Education degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.  Mr. Poole is a member of the National Music Educators Association, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, Virginia Music Educators Association, and the National Educators Association.
